02.1 EV fires - current data
How many electric vehicles catch fire? EV FireSafe's global data
EV FireSafe provides regular overview breakdowns of verified electric vehicle battery fires in various countries and globally.
Important: The information provided here is a foundational dataset and does not represent the total number of EV battery fires globally.
We continue to receive support from the Australian Department of Defence (Defence Science & Technology Group), and are therefore able to provide comparisons on cause, circumstance, ignition, vapour cloud explosion & connection to charging.
Methodology, reporting & use of global EV fire numbers
These electric vehicle battery fire incidents overviews are provided in good faith - please see our legal statement here.
Please note our research is not exhaustive & cannot hope to capture every incident globally. Incidents captured on our database are sourced & verified from online source, interviews, first hand accounts, videos, images, academic & fire agency reports & online training.
If you have an incident involving an electric vehicle you'd like to report to us, please head to our Report an EV Fire page & thank you for supporting our research.
